First thing’s first, we hope 2025 is treating everyone well so far? We’re looking forward to 2025 as the year Animal Kingdom TCG goes to print!
Let’s get straight into the updates:
As we’ve discussed in previous updates, our primary bottleneck has been artwork. Once all of the artwork is complete, the set will be print-ready.
Unfortunately, a small handful of artists we commissioned for artwork have either taken far longer than quoted to complete the work, or have vanished entirely. As frustrating as this is, at the end of the day, it’s our job as the people making Animal Kingdom to navigate these setbacks and get the game to print regardless, so to rectify the situation we’ve taken (or are taking) the following action:
1) We’ve re-commissioned some pieces with reliable artists who have a good track record of completing work for us in a timely manner.
2) Some members of our team who are artistically inclined have reshuffled their priorities to work on card artwork themselves.
Our priority is making sure the product is delivered to all of our backers. We apologise greatly that it is delayed—it is frustrating for everyone involved—but rest assured we are consistently doing what we can to make sure Animal Kingdom is able to go to print as soon as possible.
Around mid-December, our point of contact at WJPC changed suddenly due to personal circumstances on their part. We have been assigned a new point of contact who we are currently working on getting up to speed with our project’s requirements.
As WJPC’s employees will soon be on holiday for the Lunar New Year, we’ll be out of contact with them until they return. We’re going to be using this period to continue moving forward with the art situation so that when they’re back and caught up to speed on our project, we’re able to go to print as soon as possible.
As we’ve said previously, although this delay is unfortunate, we’re using the additional time to get additional gameplay feedback so that we're sure the game is as good as it can be. Additional time for playtesting has allowed for tweaks to be made for an improved gameplay experience in the first set. Many thanks to our Discord community for taking part and helping us out by playing and providing great feedback!
If you’re a backer that's waiting on AK and eager to play, consider joining us over on Discord, where we have an active playerbase who are often looking for more people to play with. New players are very welcomed, and there is no shortage of people willing to help teach you what it takes to be a successful Mayor!

Good Morning Mayors!
We hope that you're doing well? It's been almost 3 weeks since we posted up the survey allowing you to opt in for the early Hero Packs. We're going to leave it open for 2 more days, and then close the survey and contact everybody who responded wanting them now. If you've been undecided until now, think hard as you have 2 days to say yes! And if you missed it? You can find it here! - https://forms.gle/ygJiMCMaHLY5QfJX8
While we wait for the art of It's a Wild World to be completed, we've been putting the time to use in various ways. We'd like to let you know what we've been working on below:
We're currently waiting on the last few pieces of art required to release complete versions of our Print 'n' Play and Tabletop Simulator module. These versions will contain the final retail versions of all four Starter Decks, as well as all 30 cards from Hero Pack 1. We'd like to thank everyone in the AK community for the extensive and invaluable feedback over the past year, which we've used to tailor the final Starter Deck lists. (Experienced players will no doubt be happy to see that the playability of the Natasha Pola Starter Deck has been particularly improved!)
One of our top priorities currently is creating the definitive Animal Kingdom TCG Rulebook. This includes a revised Quickstart Rules guide, an Advanced Rules section, and expanded versions of the existing Glossary and FAQ section. Once this is finished it will be packaged with the Print and Play for easy access.
We've been continuing to playtest the Starter Deck and It's a Wild World play environment to further refine the gameplay experience before we're able to send it to print. We also recently announced 'play with the devs' playtest sessions! By joining the Animal Kingdom Discord server, you can opt-in for a chance to be invited to playtest sessions with the developers! These playtests use decks that we provide, and give you a chance to play with cards that won't be revealed until you're opening packs yourseves.
Getting feedback from our players has proven extremely useful for us so far and we hope to continue putting that feedback to good use.
You can join the discord using this link, if you're not already there - https://discord.gg/QJFsxkxCzP
We've also been hard at work planning and designing future products, such as themed Structure Decks and the previously mentioned Set 2, "Hijinks on the High Seas". We don't want to talk about them until we've delivered all of your It's a WIld World pledges, but once you have those in hand we'll be excited to show off what we'll be offering in the future!
And finally for this update, we'll leave you with some of the latest spoilers that you may have missed! Until next time, take care!

Hello Mayors!
The Community Promo vote is now over, and our winner is... Lady of the Tavern!
She'll get the beautiful borderless promo treatment seen here, so all of you Kickstarter backers will get to see FlareFox's art shown off in its full glory. I'd like to say that it was a close race but... Well, you can see the results at the end of this post! She took the lead on the first day, and it was never too closely contested.
We love this treatment for promo cards, so just because your particular favourite may not have won this vote, it doesn't mean that it won't have another chance in the future! Keep an eye out for future news about promotional cards.
